This is a nice oak dresser that I stained and painted. I stained the top a red oak color and painted the bottom with a Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformations kit I had leftover from painting my kitchen, I chose the Kona color.

I started by sanding the top of the dresser with 220 grit sand paper and a hand sander.

Then I took off the hardware and cleaned the dresser with the deglosser product out of the kit. I happened to have some extra book shelve boards laying around that fit in the dresser (yay!). So, I took out the hardware in the two top drawers -that were missing drawers- then glued the boards in the dresser with wood glue so the baskets would be able to slide in and out.

Then I stained the top of the dresser a red oak color. It took two coats to get the color I liked. I applied the stain with a high quality paint brush and brushed in the direction of the wood grain, then wiped off any excess with cheese cloth and waited for the stain to dry and repeated. Then I painted three coats of minwax polycrylic protective finish, following the instructions on the can.

I painted the dresser with two coats of paint from the kit, glazzed it and applied the protective coat.

I spray painted the hardware using a bronze metallic spray paint, two coats.

Got the baskets from Lows. I was really happy to find cloth baskets with a handle cut out.

And here is the finished product. I think it looks great and the hubby likes it too :)

Thanks for looking!
